The Most Beautiful Road in Finland: Road 970 from Utsjoki to Karigasniemi by Campervan
We spent several weeks in the summer of 2025 touring Finland in a campervan with the family. While in Utsjoki, a friend tipped me off about what’s said to be the most beautiful road in Finland: Route 970 from Utsjoki to Karigasniemi.
One spot along the way stood out in particular: the Teno River Road memorial and the viewpoint there. From there, the landscape opened down to the Teno River and up toward the peaks on the Norwegian side.
As I was taking a photo at that spot, a single boat happened to pass along the river as if on cue adding a sense of motion to the frame.
